Balik Arts was established in 1999 with the aim of advancing the education of Turkish speaking children, young people from the Turkish, Kurdish and Cypriot communities in order to widen opportunities available to them in the UK. The organisation also works to promote the arts and culture of the Turkish, Kurdish and Cypriot community within the UK by facilitating and practically supporting the work of artists from these communities.
Since 1999 the work and scope of the organisation has grown due to demand from the community we serve. One such new area of work is parenting. Our work takes place in the areas of London with the highest concentration of Turkish speaking people, the boroughs of Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Enfield. Many of the children and young people we work with are from refugee backgrounds.
